Everything You Need to Know and More About NDIS Plan Managers

Updated: Sep 18, 2018

The current expansion of the NDIS or the National Disability Insurance Agency is ongoing to make sure that all citizens of Australia with disabilities are covered. For those who are participants of the process, it is crucial to keep tabs on properly managing their funding.

There is more to this long process than having to finally get an approval of the funding that you have requested. Funding management seems to be essential when it comes to ensuring that you have properly used the funds being given to you and have access to the supports with less stress. Helping you achieve your goals, enhancing your life, and getting rid of barriers to participation are the good things that you can expect with proper NDIS plan management. However, you can expect to be facing some time and extra administration issues.

When doing NDIS planning, you will often be set a funding management service as provided by the agency. With this set-up, the NDIA will take charge in providing some payment to organizations and individuals who are going to be giving you services. Such service providers should be listed down as one of the providers from the approved list from the NDIA and be able to meet with the criteria for pricing even if they are with agency management. However, there are some factors that do not make this kind of set-up appealing to most participants. For starters, you might not have any registered service providers in your area. Having someone working with you that you like and you are comfortable with and knows your history can also be another reason. And of course, even if you already have a service provider in mind that is just right for you, they might not be considered a good option as they are beyond the price guide that has been set.

These are just some of the many reasons why plan management is better. Once you choose plan management, do expect the best of self-management and agency management wherein someone else will do the task of filing and paying your invoices and then taking care of all of your paperwork while you still have some flexibility and choice. Funding for the NDIS plan manager that you hire will be covered by the NDIS to make things easier for you as a participant. What makes plan management stand out better from the other management options will have to be the fact that such services are like those you get from NDIS funding. The only different will be that it falls under the category of 'improved life choices'. Simply put, hiring NDIS plan managers will not cost you some extra money and will never be taking from any area of your budget. Unlike most services where you must present a formal funding request from the organization, you need not file any for hiring a plan manager; it is as simply as asking for one.
